Dr Guy Kioni is invited to Menas Associates Webinar

Date: Wednesday 10 December | Location: Online Webinar | Time: 14:00 – 15:00 (UTC)

CONGO DRC AND THE GLOBAL RACE FOR CRITICAL MINERALS

Critical minerals are the foundation of modern energy systems, defence technologies, and digital infrastructure. Yet the accelerating global demand for these resources is reshaping, not only markets, but also communities, ecosystems, and regional stability. Congo DRC – endowed with some of the world’s largest and richest mineral reserves – has become both a strategic asset and a geopolitical fault line.

The webinar will analyse how regional cooperation, responsible investment, and innovation can transform the DRC’s minerals into a force for stability rather than division. It will discuss the impact of mining on local communities, the environment, and climate resilience, as well as the role of education and skills development in ensuring that the country’s young population benefits from this new industrial age.

By linking supply chain resilience with human development, it will outline how the DRC and its partners can build a sustainable, secure, and equitable mineral future.

The webinar will cover:

  • The DRC’s Strategic Role

  • Global Competition and Cooperation

  • Regional Cooperation in Africa

  • Energy requirement

  • Security and Supply Chain Risks

  • Industrialisation and sustainable Local Value Creation

  • Technology and Transparency

  • Pathways Forward
